Some of you asked about starting a Discord for Dark Mode as a newsletter alternative—I’m looking into this but I simply don’t know if I have the capacity to take that kind of work on at the moment. If I figure out a way to do it, I will send an update via email.

🦋THE FAVICON DESIGN🐍

After months of iterations and reworks, I finally settled on this design of a bookmark, death moth, and snake! I think it embodies the vibe of Dark Mode so well and I can’t wait to reveal the new word mark that will go with it🥵😈

The favicon’s colors can be switched out for each event, just like the old wordmark was red and then blue! This way, for my aesthetic friends, you’ll have some options 🫡 I’m also working on a black & white gritty edition, a blood splattered edition, and more!

2.0 is in dev but still has a long way to go! Please continue to be patient with me as I strive to create something epic for us all🖤

This update has been in our IG story, but just in case you missed it:

We have some good news and some unfortunate news. The good news is so many of you are downloading so many books that our authors are seeing amazing numbers. The bad news is it appears Amazon is currently undergoing technical issues.🙄😤

We are aware of the issue regarding accounts being “locked for suspicious activity”. We were informed it’s a mass technical issue with accounts everywhere, even non-SYK active accounts.

This is frustrating and disappointing for all of us. If you have experienced this issue, make sure you contact your customer support and follow their instructions to unlock your account.

If this HAS NOT happened to you and you are still downloading, please be cautious. Try to space out downloading. Unfortunately, the event does end in 2 hours for many of our authors.

HOWEVER—Several of our authors will have their books free through tomorrow as well. They did this as padding and it’s a good thing! So here’s the most I can do for those who won’t regain their account until tomorrow:

I will be up super early to comb through the Masterlist. Books that are no longer free will be hidden. Those that are still free will remain. I will send you an updated Masterlist link as soon as I have it ready!

I know it still sucks, but hopefully you’ll be able to snag some of the books you were looking forward to today. 🫂💔

For everyone else, this is your last call! The official dark mode day for most of our authors ends at 11:59 PM USA/PST.

There are over 270 dark fantasy, dark romance, horror, and dark scifi books participating in the Winter 2024 event.

From no romance to erotica, happily ever afters to tragedies, and literally some of the best covers I’ve ever seen—there’s a little bit for anyone trying to dive further into the dark fiction genre.☺️📚✨

Some Things To Keep In Mind

• Don’t wait until 12.27.24 to view the books! You can browse all 270+ books right now at the main website.

• Definitely jot down what you want to download in a separate place just in case. While I have the site as optimized as it can be, that many people trying to access it at once is bound to slow it down the day of.

• Follow the Instagram to be informed of live event updates, such as books that end up being unavailable due to Amazon malfunctions and extra sales going on.

• The site will close by the 30th. There will not be an accessible archive (yet). I’m working on it, but any books you’re interested in reading, make sure you download or add to your TBR for later.

• Be sure to checkout the Influencers section to see individual Top Reads picks.

• The Top Reads List and Masterlist for our December event went live on November 20th. (All links below!)

• If you haven’t gotten a chance to hunt through all of the books, definitely be sure to set some time aside before the day of the event. That way you can avoid slow load times and any potential website crashes!

• Be sure to whitelist this email address. When emails mention ‘no cost’ things, they tend to get sent straight to spam. So to avoid that on the day of the event, you can whitelist our email. This process is different for every email server but simple with a quick search! You can view a public archive of our sent emails here, however, if you believe you missed one or can’t find where you saved the info.

Happy Masterlist + Top Reads Release Day, Dark Mode readers!

The Masterlist and Top Reads are now available to browse. While no books are free yet (Stuff Your Kindle is on December 27th!), I highly recommend you use these next few weeks to whittle down the two lists to your personal download list. There’s also a brand new Influencers section where you can browse all of our Influencers and their Individual Top 6 Picks.

Your personal download list is a list of books you’ll want to download from the event that you stash in a separate place, whether that be your notes app, creating an Amazon list, etc. That way, when the SYK day rolls around, you’re not battling slow load times and high traffic on the Dark Mode website.

Heads up! We anticipate high traffic today with many Influencers posting about the event on social media. If you struggle with any of the pages loading, just remember these lists are live for the next month to view <3

Thank you so much for your support of this event. I never expected it to grow in the way that it has, and there are some really amazing titles in our line-up for Winter 2024.
